In July I had the pleasure of performing at the World Expo 2015 in Milan where I played at the Irish Pavilion with Cormac De Barra, Brendan Power and Carmel Comiskey. The performances there gave plenty of opportunity to enjoy these different and varied partnerships. Harpist and Irish Pavilion curator Cormac De Barra and I played music from our recent album, ‘Duopoly’, while harmonica player Brendan Power and I explored the musical possibilities of our ‘Harp to Harp’ combination. I was especially grateful to Salvi Harps for the loan of their lovely instruments, which turned out to be a lovely match to the Milanese Delfi Merlo cello played by Carmel Comiskey in our performances of Irish airs and Moore’s melodies at the Expo. In the extreme Italian heat, the Irish pavilion display even featured a soundtrack of rain (along with mooing cows), which almost cooled us down!
